School Visits

Humanists UK has a network of over a hundred trained school speakers, several of which are supported by Dorset Humanists.

Humanism is included in the RE agreed syllabuses for Bournemouth, Poole, and Dorset. It also features in GCSE syllabuses, Eduqas in particular. We offer free support for teachers of RE in both primary and secondary schools to teach Humanism as a non-religious worldview.

Our trained school visitors have delivered a large number of highly acclaimed lessons and assemblies locally including Avonbourne, Winton and Glenmoor Academies, Ferndown Upper, St Peter’s School, St. Edward's RC/CE VA School, Swanage School, Lytchett Minster School, Canford School, Thomas Hardye, Milborne St Andrew First School, Pokesdown Primary, Stourfield Junior, Winton Primary, Bishop Aldhelms, Bearwood Primary, and Hillside Verwood.

Feedback

RE Co-ordinator at Winton Primary, Sean Hassan, provided this feedback after our visit: ‘I just wanted to thank you again for spending the afternoon with us today. It really was very informative and fun, the children have left with a nice “buzz”!’

Rob Hilton, Ethical Studies teacher at Winton and Glenmoor Academies, provided this feedback about our visit to the school: “Thank you so much for your time and energy today. I have had numerous students come up to me throughout the day saying how they enjoyed hearing from a Humanist worldview. It was quite a novelty and an eye opening experience for a great many of them.”

Resources

We have produced a Teaching Humanism supplement to the Bournemouth and Poole Agreed RE Syllabus which contains a wealth of stimulating information and lesson plans.
